About Me Blog Post #1

My name is Heath Morris and I am 21 years old. I have lived in Mobile Alabama all of my life. I graduated from St. Paul's Episcopal School and played baseball my freshman for Mississippi College. I love being outdoors, on the water, or anything competitive. I am double majoring in elementary education as well as special education. I discovered that I wanted to become a teacher about a year ago when i was in nursing school. I worked as a Nursing Assistant at Mobile Infirmary for close to a year while is was in school. I spent time and had hands on experiences with many patients in my time there. I always enjoyed instructing as well as informing them about hospital policies, procedures,  and medications.

One night while at work I talked with a patient who had been a nurse all her life but wished she had been a 6th grade science teacher. She went on to say that she wished she would have just done what would have made her happy instead of thinking about her pay check at the end of the week. I have always wanted to coach baseball and teach but I have always been reluctant to do it because of the money. In this conversation I realized that while you are spending your short time on this earth, you should do what makes you happy.

  1. Hi, Heath! I see that we share the same passion about teaching. I was also reluctant to go back to school because of life itself. There was always an excuse. But working at a local elementary school in town, I realized that I, too, want my own classroom. I commend you for making that decision before it is too late.
Since we are in class together, I'm going to give you a little constructive criticism. Be sure to proofread your posts. In reading this, I found it was a little difficult to follow. I enjoyed reading it and hope to read more in the future. Please, don't be offended. I would love for you to take a look at my blog and offer me any advice. After all, if we're going to be great teachers, we need to be willing to learn.
If you're wanting to coach baseball, have you thought about going into Secondary Education so that you could possibly coach at the middle or high school level?

  2. Thank you for the comment. I agree that i should proofread more before posting something. English has been and always will be my worst subject. I already have a position coaching middle school baseball at St.Paul's School. Since it is a private school I can teach and still coach high school. Look forward to getting through this summer semester with you.

  4. Hey Heath,

It's good to have you in the college of education. We all are here because we love what we do. We are definitely not here for the money! My girlfriend wants to be a nurse, but she actually loves it, so hopefully she can stick with it.

Let us know if you have any trouble and we will be glad to help.
